Each year, the Community Arts Council of Richmond hosts an exhibition that showcases work from local artists from the Lower Mainland. The 2018 Midsummer Art’s Dream exhibition was held at Lansdowne shopping centre, where over 2,500 people viewed the show over the course of the weekend. The display of over 65 pieces featured textiles, paintings, photographs and mixed media works of art. Throughout the weekend, visitors were encouraged to vote for a “People’s Choice” favourite in each discipline, in addition to a formal adjudication by a local artist and long time friend of the Arts Council.
In an exciting turn of events, a group of Arts Connection and Renaissance Kids staff members who participated in the show took home several of the awards! Ali Burns received first place and the People’s Choice award in the Young Adult category for her painting “Not Right Now”, Jessica Trestain won third place in the Painting category for her piece “Purple Finch,” Tatjana Jasmakovska won first place and the People’s Choice award in the Mixed Media category for her pieces “Diptych 1” and “Diptych 2,” and Karen Proulx took home first place in the Photography category for her piece “Stairwell.”
We would like to congratulate all of our talented staff members who received accolades in the Midsummer Arts Dream exhibition, and are proud to have them as a part of our teaching team!
