SCHOOL of MUSIC
The CRESCENDO CHILDREN'S CHOIR is The Arts Connection's performance choir for children aged 4 to 13 that harnesses the power and joy of music to unite children together through a shared love of singing and performing. This voice training ensemble provides high quality music education and performance opportunities for all choristers. This program teaches music basics such as theory, interval training, rhythm and sight-singing techniques and is offered at three choir levels, giving opportunity for all members to grow as singers in a tight-knit community.
ABOUT OUR CHOIR DIRECTOR
Joseryl Beckley is a dramatic mezzo-soprano who is currently finishing her doctorate in opera and voice at the University of British Columbia. Joseryl earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in vocal performance from Indiana University, Bloomington. She is a 2000 graduate of Cottey College, where she studied voice under Professor Theresa Spencer. Joseryl performed the leading role in the 1997 production of Afiwa, by African composer Nicholas Ballanta in Freetown, South Africa. Her association with Ballanta led to Dr. Dyke Kiel, professor emeritus of music, becoming one of the leading Ballanta scholars. In January 2009, she took on the position as Acting Principal at the Ballanta Academy of Music and during this time. was invited by Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri to perform. in April 2010. During her visit to the U.S. in 2010, she studied Voice with Mary Ann Hart at Indiana University and founded the Rozinka School for the Performing Arts in January 2011 where she had extensive experience in music instruction and choir direction. Joseryl won The Global Leadership Fellowship in 2012 to pursue a doctorate degree in Musical Arts and is currently studying Voice and Opera with the internationally-renowned Opera Singer, Nancy Hermiston, Head of the Voice and Opera Department at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada.
